What would happen if a hundred-mile-an-hour fast ball came straight at your face, and you ignored it?  That’s right; it would knock you out!  The same is true if you ignore the warning signs God has provided for you in His Word.  To get our attention focused on Him and off other things, the Lord has given certain danger signs that would precede his coming.  We need to wake up!  We need to take heed to His words and what is going on around us.  God is at the door, and we are not looking at Him.  Paul wrote in Romans 13:11, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:  for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

The Lord has warned us that in the last days perilous times would come.  He compared the last days to the days of Lot.  In recent days, troubles, famines, and earthquakes have occurred in various places marking the beginning birthing pains.  These signs, combined with the rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948, have sounded the alarm of the immanent return of Jesus Christ.  However, as with a woman bearing a child, the real travail comes at the end.  For when they shall cry peace and safety, then the Bible says there will be “sudden destruction.”

Perilous Times

Surrounded by darkness, our world rapidly spins out of control.  Moral corruption of the population is on the rise.  People once valued things that we no longer consider important.  The world is a ‘live and let live’ type of place where anything goes.  II Timothy 3:1-4 illustrates our generation for us:

(v. 1) This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  (v. 2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (v. 3) Without natural affection, . . . despisers of those that are good . . . (v. 4) lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God . . . .

Luke 17:28 says before the Son of Man is revealed, the world shall be “ . . . as it was in the days of Lot . . . .”  Abraham’s nephew, Lot, chose to dwell in Sodom, due to the prosperity of the city.  Sodom was “a city plagued by homosexuality or ‘sodomy’ (Genesis 19:5).  Webster defines ‘sodomy’ as: unnatural sexual intercourse” (1).  In the Old Testament, Leviticus 20:13 reads, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination:  they shall surely be put to death.”  In the New Testament, homosexuality is still being condemned.  Romans 1:27 states, “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

Sexual promiscuity and immorality have been around since the beginning of time; however, when I was growing up they were concealed in the closet.  Today they are openly promoted everywhere.  The media is full of sexual perversion.  On national television, celebrities are blatantly discussing their homosexual lifestyles.  Even those who claim to be priests have been exposed in the newspapers as gay.  Never before in the history of time have we ever heard of legalizing gay marriages; yet in the last few years gay couples desiring to be married have pushed their way into our courtrooms.  And what about gay rights in the military?  Then there is Disney’s promotion of “gay days” when Disney openly invites homosexuals to come out for the weekend.

Hey folks, it’s just like it was in the days of Lot when men, burning with lust, stood outside Lot’s own home and called for the two angels to come outside.  When they did not conform to the sin, the men tried to push themselves inside.  Sin is always knocking at our door; still we do not have to let it in.  Romans 6:6 tells us “ . . . we should not serve sin.”  Our Lord hates sin, but He loves the sinner.  It does not matter where you have been or what you have done.  God has made a way for you.  He loves you, and He died for you.  Even so, you must turn from your old ways, and obey the Word of God.
